この作品は、「晴れ」をテーマとし、日本神話の「天岩戸」をモチーフにしています。前作「ゑらゑら」に続き、今回は太陽神アマテラスオオミカミを主役としました。

神話によれば、アマテラスは弟スサノオの荒々しい振る舞いを避け、岩戸の中に隠れてしまいます。太陽を失った世界は闇に包まれ、困ったオモイカネやフトダマ、アメノコヤネたちは、アマノウズメの舞を用いて彼女を誘い出そうと宴を開きました。

本作では、その岩戸が開かれ、光が世界を満たす瞬間を描きました。前作「ゑらゑら」が夜の宴の場面だったのに対し、今回は朝の光が差し込む構図となっており、対になっています。世界が明るさを取り戻し、晴れ渡る空の下、幸福な光に包まれる情景を表現しました。

In this work I have used the legend of Ama-no-Iwato, from Japanese mythology, as a motif to express the theme of ‘sunny weather.’ Continuing from last year’s work, Era Era, this time I have used Amaterasu Omikami, the sun goddess, as the main character.

According to the myth, Amaterasu hid inside a cave to avoid the violent behavior of her brother, Susanoo-no-mikoto. Deprived of the sun, the world became shrouded in darkness, and the other gods, including Omoikane, Ftodama, and Amenokoyane, decided to hold a feast and have the god of revelry and the arts, Amanouzume, perform a dance in an attempt to lure her out.

This work depicts the moment when the door of the cave is opened, filling the world with light. While the previous work, Era Era, depicted a feast that was held in the dark, this year I have shown the morning sunlight breaking through, the two works forming a pair. It expresses the return of light to the world, under a clear blue sky, filling everything with brightness and joy.
